New database on CAM regulation in Europe

Mar 20, 2015

A new website, ‘CAM Regulation,’ gives open access to a database of information on the regulation of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in 39 countries in Europe. It includes general as well as specific regulatory issues on twelve selected CAM treatments, including homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine, as well as information on legal and regulatory status, governmental supervision and reimbursement status.

Launched by National Research Center in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NAFKAM) in Norway, the website is based on the Regulatory report of the EU-funded CAMbrella project, updated where possible with developments since 2012.

CAM regulation differs substantially from country to country in Europe. NAFKAM’s objective is to give an overview of the regulation allowing CAM practitioners and health care professionals access to up-to-date information for the proper governance of health care services and European citizens to make informed and safe choices when they seek CAM treatments both at home and over the border.
