HRI scientists point out deep flaws in new Australian report on homeopathy

Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has published a Statement on Homeopathy and final Information Paper – ‘Evidence on the effectiveness of homeopathy for treating health conditions’. Despite concerns raised during the public consultation last year that there were deep flaws in how the evidence on homeopathy was analysed, none of these problems have been addressed in the final publication. 

The NHMRC concludes that ‘there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective.’

However, scientists from Homeopathy Research Institute (HRI), whose goal is high quality scientific research in homeopathy, maintain that the conclusions of the NHMRC report are inconsistent with the evidence. They identify serious flaws in the way the report was compiled which, they say, negate the findings of the report.

These flaws are further explained in an open letter from the Australian Homeopathic Association to NHMRC, which expresses multiple concerns about the process used to compile the report and the way in which the results were communicated to the media.
