ECHAMP expert workshop: Homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products in society

May 11, 2016

On 25 April, ECHAMP was proud to host an expert workshop in Stockholm to set the scientific and political context for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products in Sweden and elsewhere.  The first session of the workshop addressed the status of scientific evidence for these products and therapeutic systems and the second discussed how regulation is matching demand for these products. About 50 ECHAMP delegates, industry representatives from around the EU, were joined by interested stakeholders from Sweden.

Panel 1
Dr Harald Hamre, Dr Alexander Tournier, Rachel Roberts and Yeal Jusidman

The first session was supported by Swedish Association for Scientific Homeopathy and moderated by its Vice Chairman, Yael Jusidman. We were delighted to welcome a very high profile panel of sector scientists - Rachel Roberts, Chief Executive of Homeopathy Research Institute (HRI), Dr Alexander Tournier, Executive Director of HRI and Dr Harald Hamre, Scientific Director of the European Scientific Co-operative on Anthroposophic Medicinal Products (ESCAMP), who together outlined the status of both clinical and basic research in this area.

Panel 2
Sven Backlund, Dr Sandra Holt, Dr Monica Mennet-von Eiff, Dr Gesine Klein

The second session was moderated by ECHAMP President, Dr Gesine Klein. It addressed some specific regulatory challenges for these products in Sweden and elsewhere, as outlined by Dr Mónica Mennet-von Eiff, Member of the Board of ECHAMP and Dr Sandra Holt of the Swedish Medicines Agency. It is hoped that the workshop discussion will help inform the current debate in Sweden about regulation for these products.

A full report of the meeting and copies of the presentations will be available to participants on the ECHAMP website in the coming days.
