Homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine – Is EU legislation fit for purpose?

On 18 November, ECHAMP celebrates its tenth anniversary with a high-level pharmapolitical symposium for EU and national level policy makers and other health stakeholders. This will take a look back over the past ten years at the progress made towards the goal of an appropriate EU legal and regulatory framework for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products and debate the question ‘Is EU legislation fit for purpose?’

The symposium is aimed at all stakeholders in this field, including representatives of political and regulatory bodies from the EU and Member States, European patients’, doctors’ and practitioners’ organisations and of European industry. Confirmed speakers include Paul Lannoye, (former MEP and rapporteur for the European Parliament Resolution on the Status of Non-Conventional Medicine 1997), Dagmar Roth Behrendt (Vice-President of the European Parliament), Irene Sacristan Sanchez (European Commission, Deputy Head Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry / Unit Pharmaceuticals), Dr Emiel van Galen (Chair of Homeopathic Medicinal Products Working Group - HMPWG at the Heads of Medicines Agencies of the EU), Dr Margot Spohn (SwissMedic - Swiss Medicines Agency), Dr Mónica Mennet-von Eiff (SVKH - Swiss Association for Complementary Medicine Products) and Dr.Phil.Dr.Rer.Biol.Hum. Wolfgang Weidenhammer, Technical University of Munich Zentrum für naturheilkundliche Forschung der II. Medizinischen Klinik und Poliklinik. The event will be chaired by Nand De Herdt, President of ECHAMP. 

The symposium will be followed by a reception and buffet meal, formally opened by Laurette Onkelinx, Belgian Vice-Prime Minister-Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health.
