New Facts & Figures: market exceeds €1 billion
A new study by ECHAMP values the total EU market for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products in 2010 at €1.035 billion, showing that the EU industry for these products exceeded the €1 billion mark for the third year in a row.
‘Homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine in the EU: Facts and Figures 2011’ (Third edition) demonstrates significant growth in the sales of homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products over the past fifteen years. It shows continued good growth for many markets in 2010, especially the smaller ones, but nevertheless the overall picture for the EU in 2010 is one of a slight decline. Read more…
Pharma package: an update
New provisions for pharmacovigilance will introduce possibly one of the biggest changes in the legal framework for human medicinal products of the last twenty years; new legislation on falsified medicines will be fully applicable from January 2013; and after a slow start, the proposals on information to patients should lead to better empowered patients and more rational use of medicines. ECHAMP President Nand De Herdt reports on the significant progress that has been made in recent months on the three proposals of the Pharma package, and on the new legislation now published for the first two items. Report supports effectiveness of homeopathy
A comprehensive report into the effectiveness, use, safety and cost effectiveness of homeopathy is now available in English. ‘Homeopathy in Healthcare’ presents the results of the first multi-disciplinary review (Health Technology Assessment) into homeopathy; it concludes that ‘there is sufficient evidence for the clinical efficacy of homeopathy and for its safety and economy compared to conventional treatment.
