Who are we?
ECHAMP, the European Coalition on Homeopathic and Anthroposophic Medicinal Products, is a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) that represents the industry for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products in Europe. Its aim is to achieve full availability of these medicinal products in the EU.
ECHAMP was founded in 1999 and now has 44 full company members, 14 corresponding members (being practitioners’ and patients’ organisations) and 10 associated members (being national manufacturers’ associations), from 17 EU Member States, all active in the production and distribution of these products. This industry has a long-standing tradition in the EU, which is the major world producer of homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products, and in 2010, the European market for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products was valued at €1.035 billion, over €1 billion for the third year in a row. These products account for 0.7% of the European pharmaceutical market.
ECHAMP endorses the important role that homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine play and can play in healthcare and seeks to maximise availability of homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products for all citizens of Europe. More than 100 million EU citizens choose homeopathic and anthroposophic medicines for their healthcare. ECHAMP believes that patients should be free to choose the therapy they want, that doctors should be free to prescribe the medicines they believe are needed and that homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products should be widely available for those who want and need them across the EU.
The full range of products necessary for the proper practice of homeopathy or anthroposophic medicine includes approximately 3000 medicines. ECHAMP works to ensure an appropriate regulatory status for these safe, effective and high quality products, which merit an appropriate application of the EU regulatory framework and a harmonised trading environment.
ECHAMP is a non-profit organisation, financed by membership fees and other contributions as defined in the Articles of Association.
