Weleda, Sweden was founded in 1958 and has since then produced, imported and distributed anthroposophical remedies throughout Sweden.
In the year 1995 a newly built production facility with GMP-standards was taken into use in Järna. The main volume of remedies are prescribed by medical doctors, many of them connected to the anthroposophical hospital, Vidarkliniken, in Järna. Anthroposophical remedies are specifically mentioned in the Swedish law and the Ministry of Health (not the regulatory authorities) have granted the marketing authorisation for the right to produce and to sell the anthroposophical remedies.

Activities in direction of anthroposophic medicines already started around 1925 in France thanks to a small Weleda subsidiary. Nowadays Weleda France is the second biggest Weleda unit with 250 co-workers and more or less 25 millions euro turnover in 2002, year during which 18.000 from 23.000 existing pharmacies in France have delivered Weleda remedies.
